Center Sage

The Johnson School, in partnership with Cornell Business Services (CBS), operates Center Sage in B24 Sage Hall. This facility is designed to service, first and foremost, the faculty and staff of the Johnson School, together with its student body.  The results:

  • Longer Hours
  • Retail Services
  • More Services
  • In-house Course Packets & Textbooks Availability

As examples of the expanded services, students are able to take advantage of the copy services, purchase stamps, color transparencies, mail packages and send and receive confidential faxes. CBS also provides a small retail operation where students can purchase school supplies, etc.  Johnson School course packets and textbooks are also available on site.

A modest inventory of office supplies for faculty is maintained by the Faculty Support Aides in Room 304. Departments are responsible for ordering their own supplies and Cornell has indicated that Staples is the preferred supplier. Staples' web address is http://www.staplescentral.com/contract/cornell/. Procurement Cards can be used to purchase supplies under $500.00. If you choose this method of payment, provide the Administrative Service Center will appropriate backup for the charge.

Below you will find a brief overview of the operation, how you can utilize its services, and the benefits provided.

Self-Serve Copiers for Faculty and Staff

Self-serve copiers are strategically located around the building and are maintained by CBS. Paper and toner are also provided by CBS. These machines can also serve as backup equipment for “after-hours” and “weekends.”  They are located as follows:  315, 401 and 446 and in several individual offices; e.g. Admissions, etc.  Each day someone from the Center will check these machines to ensure the maximum amount of performance. If there are service concerns, replacement and/or new purchase issues, contact the Center directly or Joe Jacoby can serve as a liaison between you and the Center.

Full Serve Business Services and Fees

Two (2) Canon Image Runner 600’s copiers are available on-site to serve the Johnson Community. These machines are very durable, produce a combined 120 copies per minute and provide extremely high quality. In addition, there is the presence of a color copier, which is fully networked. Also, CBS has machinery capable of an additional 260 copies per minute for the high volume, quick turnaround projects required, located at the University Print Shop.  Center Sage guarantees their work and delivery as agreed to or you will not be charged.  Their goals are, as follows:

  • 1 - 1,000 impressions within 4 hours
  • 1,001 - 10,000 impressions within 24 hours
  • 10,000 - 30,000 impressions within 48 hours
  • 30,001 - 100,000 impressions within 96 hours

CBS will make reasonable attempts to complete jobs of 1,000 or fewer impressions within two (2) hours of receipt. While the intent is to complete all duplicating jobs in-house, some work may be sent out of the building for expediency.  Turnaround time shall not be affected by this remote duplication, and the finished copies will be delivered back to Sage Hall.  Confidentiality will be observed at all times.

Fees for Departments & Students

As one would expect, copying costs vary depending on the equipment and volume.  On average, the cost of running 1 – 100 copies on the convenience copiers will run approximately $.04 per copy, not including labor or paper.  The same job directed to the Center will cost you $.029 a copy; Transparencies, $.55 each; 1 – 10 Color Copies, $.59 each and so on.  Once again, costs scale depending on equipment and volume.  You are encouraged to send as much copying as possible to the Center and to feel free to talk with Center personnel about costs for larger volume jobs; they have indicated there may be some room for negotiation!

  • Charges, at the established rates, will be automatically billed to your respective STAR or departmental account whether you use the Center or the convenience copiers. Students opting to use the services can charge on their Cornell Card or pay cash. Copying in the Center is still the least expensive way to reproduce materials. Center Sage charges students approximately $.05 a sheet (for 1 to 10 copies) vs. $.10 a sheet in the Library with a Venda Card or $.15 if you use coins. Printing is estimated at $.06 a sheet and Gnomon charges $.05; Kinko's $.08 - and neither provides the convenience of Center Sage.

Mail Services

Mail Services is separate from the Center. Mail will be delivered and distributed to the mailboxes located on the Classroom Level. A second set of mailboxes for faculty are located on the Third Floor in Room 315. Visiting Faculty are assigned mailboxes in that location only because of a shortage of space in the Mail Room on the Classroom Level. CA1 Outdoor Keys provide access into the Mail Room on the Classroom Level, and Room 315 is cardswipe accessible.
