Inclement Weather
For internal purposes only, the School's policy is simply stated, "should the weather deteriorate after you have come in and you want to leave early, you may do so. The time taken, must be recorded as Personal Leave (if you have the accrued time) or Vacation."
Similarly, if you believe it is too treacherous for you to attempt to come in, you may choose to remain at home and, if that is the case, those hours should be recorded as Personal Leave (assuming you have the accrued time) or Vacation.
A copy of the University's Inclement Weather Policy is available electronically at http://policy.cornell.edu/vol2_5.cfm. The following excerpt from the actual policy is provided for its informational value:
"Whenever possible, announcements of the University's decision on inclement weather conditions will be made by 5:00 a.m. and broadcast over local radio stations and regional TV stations. The media generally does not carry announcements of openings; they broadcast closings and cancellations only. If there is no announcement concerning Cornell, members of the University community are to assume that the University will be open and operating as usual. Employees who are regularly scheduled to start work prior to 5:00 a.m. should call 255-3377 to obtain information if inclement weather conditions exist. Please do not call Public Safety for closing information. Such calls will tie up lines needed for emergencies."
