Probationary Review Process All new hourly staff, with the exception of transfers, work on a probationary basis for the first three months after their date of hire. Within the first 30 days of employment, Supervisors should establish performance expectations for the new employee. Supervisors are encouraged to use this as an opportunity to discuss the position, clarify aspects of the job and discuss expected performance. Employees must receive a formal performance review within two weeks prior to the end of the three-month probationary period. It is recommended that Supervisors provide structured feedback to probationary employees by completing the Probationary Review Form at the end of the first and third months of employment. The Supervisor should complete all sections of the form except for Employee's Comments and Employee's Signature, which are intended for completion by the employee. Upon completion, the Supervisor should send the original form to the Administrative Service Center, 235 Sage and provide a copy of the form to the employee. An employee on probation is expected to maintain the highest standards of conduct and job performance. If a Supervisor feels that a probationary employee's behavior or performance can be improved to a satisfactory level with counseling prior to the end of the probationary period, there are counseling guidelines available to assist the Supervisor. For more information, contact the Administrative Service Center at X5-5037.
