Transaction Authority Policy
(see also Authorized Signatures)

The University places limits on the authority of individuals to conduct business with external parties on its behalf. Such transactions obligate the University and cannot be entered into by individuals without the appropriate level of authority to do so. The Board of Trustees has authorized certain responsible individuals to represent the University when entering into transactions (including agreements and contracts). The policy is available in its entirety at http://www.policy.cornell.edu/vol4_2.cfm. It explicitly describes various types of transactions, the responsibility and accountability of those entering into such transactions and the restrictions and reviews required.

At the Johnson School, the Dean, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Associate Dean for MBA Programs and Administration and the Director of Administrative Services are individuals who have been identified by the School to represent the University in transactions for spending or receiving funds, providing or receiving services and/or otherwise committing its resources. The School's Finance Specialist has limited transactional authority as well. Individual Managers or Principal Investigators are not able to provide Authorized Signatures.
