Nonexempt Travel, aka Travel, Overtime Pay Eligible (OPE) Employees

The School's policy governing overtime pay eligible (hourly/OPE) employees' travel is that approval will be granted at the discretion of the immediate Supervisor. Supervisors are urged to consider whether or not such travel is necessary and if it makes better sense to have an overtime pay ineligible (OPI) employee travel. Under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, travel time is considered work time for the purposes of nonexempt hourly wage and overtime computation. If the Supervisor deems it necessary, the University's Travel Time as Time Worked Policy must be exercised. The Policy, in its entirety, can be found at http://www.ohr.cornell.edu/policies/nonacademic/1011b_wagesalary/6713.html.
