Adoption Assistance Program

Cornell recognizes that the needs of today's family are continually evolving as the composition of America's work force changes. It also recognizes that as Cornell builds upon its inclusive and open foundation, and becomes increasingly transnational and transformative; the individual and family needs of our diverse faculty and staff become increasingly varied. Over the past decade, Cornell has enhanced its benefits and programs to meet a wide range of work/life needs, offering programs such as long-term care insurance, same-sex partner benefits, a child care grant subsidy program, and social events for newly hired minority faculty and staff. In the Summer of 2004, parental leaves for faculty were enhanced. The University leadership enhanced its parental leave program, which will go a long way towards helping the University maintain its commitment to maintaining a diverse and actively integrated community of talent at Cornell.

The new Adoption Assistance Program recognizes that expenses associated with adopting a child range from $4,000 to $30,000, depending on whether the adoption is domestic or international. This Program offers reimbursement to faculty and to academic and nonacademic staff for up to $5,000 for adoption-related expenses incurred after January 1, 2005. The Program is administered by the Office of Workforce Diversity, Equity and Life Quality. For additional information on the Adoption Assistance Program, go to http://www.ohr.cornell.edu/worklife/balancing/adoptionAssist/InfoandGuidelines.doc.

The application form for reimbursement, which must be completed and routed via US Mail to the Adoption Assistance Program, Box 43 Day Hall, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY 14853, is available at http://www.ohr.cornell.edu/worklife/balancing/adoptionAssist/ApplicationReimbursement.pdf.
