S.C. Johnson Graduate School of Management has transformed Sage Hall from an aging
19th Century campus landmark into a 21st Century standard of architectural, technological
and educational distinction. Located at the heart of the Cornell campus, Sage
Hall offers students access to the kind of cutting-edge environment found in top
corporations. The Hillier Group of Princeton, New Jersey, led the $38.2 million
reconstruction project.
Built in 1875 as a Womens College, the new Sage Hall combines a physical
environment designed to increase interaction among people with a high-tech infrastructure
to support the Schools technology-enhanced management curriculum. Open spaces,
such as the three-story Dyson Atrium, and other sitting areas increases interactions
among Students, Faculty and Visiting Executives. Advanced technologies such as
teleconferencing capabilities, high-bandwidth fiber-optic cable and a Wall Street
trading room provide real-time connections around the globe.
The Parker Center for Investment Research includes high-speed data lines and more
than $1.5 million of the same sophisticated software used by investment managers.
As a result, Johnson School students have the opportunity to do real-time analysis
with the same software Wall Street analyst's use and to trade securities using
real money.
Sage Hall includes:
- Three-story, sky-lit Atrium in the center courtyard;
- Eight
amphitheater-type classrooms and 29 Breakout Rooms;
- Classrooms wired
for two-way distance learning, with cameras, projectors, network feeds and phone
lines;
- Laptop connections readily available at every classroom seat,
and in all Breakout and Seminar Rooms, the Library and Lounge areas;
-
High-quality production facility (printers, scanning equipment and digital cameras)
and multimedia laboratory (digital video editing system) open to Students, Faculty
and Staff; and
- High bandwidth circuits, on demand, in every office and
classroom, as well as in the Library, labs and special research areas powered
by a fiber optic network running throughout the School.
To accommodate the Johnson School, the 104,000 square foot, U-shaped building
was expanded to 145,000 square feet, and was dedicated in the Fall of 1998. Additional
