Dual Appointments, Conflict of Commitment (Nonacademics)
Any appointment to a full-time nonacademic position - exempt or nonexempt - at the University is considered to be a staff member's PRIMARY employment. There is a policy which can be found at http://www.ohr.cornell.edu/policies/nonacademic/1011h_oppractice/6131.html which clarifies the conflict of commitment if one accepts a secondary or dual appointment at another college or unit within the University.
Although you are urged to read the policy in its entirety, if you decide to accept a secondary appointment, you should be aware of at least the following:
If approached by another college to take on additional work; e.g., be in transcription, editing, etc., read the above mentioned policy carefully and talk with your local Human Resources Officer if you have any questions before you accept and/or negotiate payment. The rate of pay offered is cleared spelled out in the policy, as are any limitations.
If you are on the other end and are looking to hire someone from within the University for a secondary position or dual appointment, contact the Administrative Service Center for guidance, 235 Sage Hall. It is especially important you do this prior to making any commitments, financial or otherwise.
