International
SOS Program, The SOS Program is administered by International SOS, the world's largest medical and security assistance company with more than 3,000 professionals in 24-hour Alarm Centers, international clinics, and remote-site medical facilities across five continents. The service is available to Cornell Employees and Students. Students traveling on Cornell University business or going on an international field trip as part of a course are covered. Arrangements have been made with Cornell Abroad to cover students who study abroad beginning next semester. Thus students in the Johnson School's exchange program will be covered once that arrangement is finalized. The Program is not available to exchange students at Cornell University but does cover foreign nationals working as employees of Cornell University in Ithaca. Services include medical and security evacuation, repatriation, access to SOS medical centers around the world, e-mail alerts, personal travel locator, emergency records, and prompts about vaccinations and boosters. These services are over and above the business travel insurance employees already receive when traveling for Cornell. The University bears all costs of the program, with no charge to the employee or student who uses them. As long as you are on official university business, and enrolled in the Program, you are covered; no advance registration is required. You will however need to carry the membership card with you at all times to access the services of International SOS. You can print a membership card directly from the website www.internationalsos.com, where you will also find more detailed information about the Program. This is a secure site so you will be directed through the Kerberos authentication process. You will not need to remember the membership number for this route, just your NetID and password. Your itinerary will be entered into the system automatically if you purchase tickets through Cornell travel or one of the other local travel agencies that together handle about 90% to 95% of the travel business for Cornell. Be sure to ask your travel agent if that agency is a part of the system at the time you make your travel plans. If it is not, you can enter your itinerary yourself along with emergency contacts and your personal medical information. This information is held in a secure database accessible only by you and the staff of International SOS (with your permission) in the event of an emergency. For personal travel, we ask that you consider International SOS Global Traveler. For this service, go to www.internationalsos.com/buymembership. If you have questions about your own particular situation, and cannot find answers on the website, contact Cornell's Office of Risk Management at (607) 277-1188. Last Modified: May 13, 2008
