Office Hours

It is expected that all administrative and support offices at the School be open and/or telephones manned from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  In order to accomplish this, Managers are asked to encourage staff to stagger schedules and work from either 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. or from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. to provide coverage.  This allows for forty-two (42) minutes for lunch.  The regular work week is thirty-nine (39) hours or 7.8 hours per day.  Often requests or telephone calls come in after 4:00 p.m. and if offices and telephones are not properly manned outsiders perceive staff to be gone.  This does not project a good impression.  The University encourages flextime, and the School supports its recommendation.  If Managers work with employees to stagger lunch hours and/or regular work hours, it is possible to both provide flextime and successfully man offices.
