Transit Options

Zone One Privileges
As a Cornell employee, you can ride any TCAT bus routes in Zone One, Monday through Friday, by showing your Employee ID when boarding. Go to www.tcatbus.com for zone information.

OmniRide
The most popular commuter program is OmniRide. The OmniRide pass is valid on any public transit bus in Tompkins County, anytime they run.

OmniRiders with registered vehicles receive up to three free books of ten, one-day parking permits a year, valid in all Tier 2 lots and K areas for those days when you need to drive. Additional books are available for a fee. Additional information, benefits, and details can be found at http://www.parking.cornell.edu/tms3_omniride.html

Parking Permits
No-fee parking is available in the North Campus A lot. Bus service from A lot to central campus is as frequent as every ten minutes; no fee when you show your Employee ID when boarding.

Occasional Parking
If you bike, walk, or are dropped off on campus, and only bring a car every now and then, consider joining Occasional Parker. You will receive two books of ten, one-day permits, valid in all Tier 2 lots and K areas for those days when you need to park. Additional books may be purchased for a fee.

Temporary Employee Options

Temporary employees appointed for less than six months are eligible for no-fee parking in the North Campus A Lot, and can use their temporary Employee ID card for on-campus bus service.

Pay the Full Fee

Parking Permits
Cornell has a system of permit tiers and zones to determine parking fees. See the price chart for current fees, and the Employee Parking Map for zone information. Pricing information and a copy of the map can be found at the Office of Transportation, 116 Maple Avenue. Additionally, pricing information can be found online at http://www.parking.cornell.edu/tms3_faculty.html?quicklinks2=tms3_faculty.html and a copy of the map is available online at http://www.parking.cornell.edu/pdf/FSmap.pdf?quicklinks5=pdf%2FFSmap.pdf. Permits are issued based on availability and your work location.

Each permit allows parking in the designated lot or area, and in every lower tier and A Lot. For example, a Tier 5 permit allows the holder to park in the garage and in Tiers 4, 3, 2, and A Lot.

Eligible employees pay for their transit and parking fees via payroll deduction on a pre-tax basis. Deductions are taken over 24 pay periods. Employees paid over 26 pay periods have two paychecks with no deductions. Permits may also be paid for by cash, check, or credit card.

Pay a Reduced Fee

RideShare
Share the ride with one or more eligible employees, and you can qualify for a reduced fee - or free - parking permit. Your group may even qualify for a rebate and a reserved parking space. Employees must ride together at least three times a week and meet other requirements. RideShare groups of three or more who park in a Tier 2 lot qualify for a reserved parking space, as do groups of four or more who park in Tiers 3, 4, 5, and 6. Permits are issued based on availability and work location.

Eligible groups can receive books of ten, one-day parking permits, valid in all Tier 2 lots and K areas. Your group will receive one less book of permits than there are members with registered vehicles. Additional books are available for a fee. Additional information, benefits, fees, rates, requirements, and details can be found at http://www.parking.cornell.edu/tms3_rideshare.html?quicklinks2=tms3_rideshare.html.

OmniRide for Out-of-County Riders
Transit riders who live outside Tompkins County can join OmniRide. You will receive a discounted transit pass for your county's system (the fee for the pass is payroll deductible), and a free OmniRide pass (a sticker on your Employee ID), good on any bus in Tompkins County, seven days a week. Contact your county's transit provider for complete schedule and route information.

OmniRiders with registered vehicles receive up to three free books of ten, one-day parking permits a year, valid in all Tier 2 lots and K areas for those days when taking the bus is not an option. Additional books are available for a fee.

Information for 2006-2007 Parking Permit Fees & Rebates is available at http://www.parking.cornell.edu/tms3_rideshare.html.

Departmental SPECIAL Parking Passes:

Transportation and Mail Services recognizes that special circumstances warrant special parking privileges, on occasion, to guests, visitors, and staff members. To accommodate such requests the Transportation and Mail Services provides departments with special Visitor Parking Permits and in rare instances, one-day D Lot Permits. The latter having to be worked out directly with Transportaton and Mail Services.

These one-day Visitor Parking Permits are available in the Administrative Service Center. There is a charge of $8.00 per permit. Departmental funds cannot be used to pay for parking for employees or students.

If you are aware of a visitor coming to Sage Hall, please contact the Administrative Service Center, at least twenty-four (24) hours in advance, to obtain a permit. A record is maintained as to the individual's name, the purpose of the visit and the appropriate Departmental Account Number to be charged. Please have this information available when the request is made. The Administrative Service Center is limited to the number of permits the Transportation Office will issue at any one time. Therefore, you are urged to plan accordingly and provide the Administrative Service Center with as much advance notice as possible to ensure the availability of a permit. The permit should be presented to the visitor upon arrival. However, if necessary, it may be sent if there is sufficient time.

Visitor Parking Permits are valid in areas marked Visitor, K, SA, R, W, WE, O, TH, ME, CF, A, E, CP, and they may be used on the roof of the Parking Garage next to Hoy Field. The Permit is not valid in D parking areas including the lot outside of Sage Hall. The permit can be used on registered and non-registered vehicles. Faculty, staff and students may also use the one-day Visitor Parking Permits. In addition, Visitor Permits entitle the permit holder to complimentary 30 minute loading permits from the Visitor's Booths.

Regarding the purchase of Parking Permits: departments may not pay for employee's personal parking permits, regardless of the source of funds.

D Permits, again, can be obtained for very important guests and the Administrative Service Center needs advance notice as they must coordinate this effort directly with Transportation Services. The cost of these permits are $10.00 and are available for only one-day at a time.

Parking For Campus Vendors
Repair persons or installers who are at Sage and need their vehicles nearby to access tools, etc., can obtain an MT Parking Permit which will allow them to park in the D Parking Lot (adjacent to the Tunnel Door) by visiting the Office of Transportation and Mail Services at 116 Maple Avenue.
