Class of 2008 Gift
What is the Johnson School Annual Fund?
The Johnson School Annual Fund is the school’s most
flexible and responsive funding.
It is a pooled sum of gifts from alumni, matching gift companies, and
friends who wish to help the school meet anticipated as well as emerging
priorities, and maintain and build its brand. A gift to the Annual Fund is a
testament to your belief in the school and a statement of your desire to
join others in support of the
What is the gift that we are giving?
This year the class of 2008 will be giving the school a
gift that is the dollar sum of all our individual gifts. Unlike some
previous graduating classes we will not be giving the school just one gift
but we will be giving a gift that will helpmeet next year’s students’ needs.
The aggregated gift is a symbolic measure of our class’s belief in
the
Who decided that this is the gift we are
giving?
The class of 2008 alumni officers.
Why is giving to the Johnson School Annual Fund
better than cool tangible gifts like a clock or flag pole?
It is often very difficult to choose a gift that an
entire class of individuals can rally behind.
For that reason, we (the class officers) decided we wanted to leave a
gift that would provide the most use and still make a real impact on the
lives of current and future students.
Johnson School Annual Fund dollars in the past have created some
amazing new programs and also helps to fund some of the
What does the Johnson School Annual Fund
spending go to?
Examples of what gets funded by the Johnson School
Annual Fund are scholarships, immersion courses, career management programs,
faculty research, library acquisitions, technology enhancements, and
diversity and inclusion programs.
How will we be able to know what our money went
to after we graduate?
If you give your gift to the Johnson School Annual
Fund, you can check the school’s annual report for details on how that money
was spent. If you go with option
two and restrict your dollars to a particular component of the school, that
is where you gift will be directed.
So does that mean we will aggregate the total
dollars and then buy one gift that represents the gift?
Not really.
We will aggregate the total dollars and that will be the gift.
We will not be purchasing a $55,000 clock or naming a brick after our
class. Instead you have the
option of giving to the Johnson School Annual Fund or restricting your gift
toward use in a specific area of the school.
How will we commemorate our gift? Plaque, Cup,
etc.?
Your class officers and the gift campaign committee are
currently discussing ways to leave our legacy and commemorate our gift to
the school. Whatever it turns
out to be, it will be prominently displayed in the school along with other
awards honoring alumni support.
What are the giving goals for this year?
100% participation!
$50,000 raised with our challenger match bringing us to a total of at
least $100,000!
What are the giving goals of the EMBAs and
The EMBAs have set a $100,000 goal and they have not
received a challenged offer to match gifts.
They also have set a participation goal of 100%, which the EMBA class
last year reached. The 2007 MBA
class reached 89% participation.
Can we pledge and pay once we start working?
Although not preferred, this is an option you can take
advantage of this year. Your
gift must be paid by June 30, 2008, when the fiscal year ends.
How much should we give?
On average, if we each gave ~$180 we could reach our
$50,000 target. However some
individuals will give less and hopefully many will give more!
It’s really up to you.
Talk with your classmates or ask a gift campaign committee member what they
gave.
Will people know how much money that I give?
Not unless you share that with others or you offer to
be used as positive example by the gift campaign committee.
Can we control what our gift goes to?
If you choose option two, yes. If you choose option one, your gift will go toward the Johnson School Annual Fund and will support the most immediate needs of the school this and next year.
