Starting Your Own Business

The time may be ripe to pull out your business plan and get serious about starting your own company, or joining a start-up. When jobs are flowing and compensation is too good to pass up, many students defer their dreams of starting a business. Now it may be ideal, especially if you aren't able to obtain the job you were pursuing. Charles Hamilton '04, who was recently appointed Entrepreneur in Residence, came to the Johnson School from a non-profit. He used to sit in my office and lament about the cultures of the large corporations recruiting on campus. He didn't want to fit into that environment. When he graduated, he stayed local and became a serial entrepreneur. You can email Charles, through Outlook, to set up an appointment with him.

As of last Friday, there are 13 companies participating in Day in the Back Bay in Boston. The CMC is leasing a bus to transport as many of the 50 participating students who don't want to drive on their own. Recruiters invited 33 second years and 22 first year students to interview. We're hoping a number of job offers result.

Careers 2.0 will meet again on Tuesday, 4:30 in B-11. If you're seeking a job we hope to see you there to share contacts and best practices concerning the off-campus job search.
