The Targeted Approach
The April 27 issue of BusinessWeek includes the weekly article from Jack and Suzy Welch, which this week is titled "Crazy for the Job".
Quick summary...they offer 3 recommendations about job searching in the economic climate:
-You can settle for any job
-You can start your own business
-Or, you can be pushy and creative, which is their preferred approach. They advise to "pick one or two places where you've always wanted to work and repeatedly make your case in the most creative, appealing and persuasive way you can."
The April 13 issue of Fortune highlights How to Get a Job and is online at this link http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/storysupplement/flyp/index.htm
-The advice is somewhat similar..people getting the jobs aren't necessarily the most connected..they're the most creative.
-The article cites the Bureau of Labor Statistics that although 2.5 million new workers were laid off in January, 4.4 million new workers were hired.
-Sending out a ton of resumes is not looking for a job. The author also promotes a much more targeted search. Examples are offered on creative approaches to persuade that targeted list of companies to hire you.
