Nonprofits Students Partners Projects Post an Opportunity
Information for Nonprofits

The Johnson School's Community Consulting Group continues Cornell University's tradition of community service and business management leadership by creating a common platform for the Tompkins County non-profit community to obtain the assistance of graduate students at the S.C. Johnson School of Management. The Community Consulting Group offers a mechanism for MBA students to lend their expertise and apply their business / management skills to the Tompkins County community by addressing real-life problems and immediate business issues facing non-profits.

Access to Graduate Business Students
Typical Johnson School students have earned undergraduate degrees from top universities. Many also have graduate degrees in technical fields, and an average of 5+ years of work experience in positions that require leadership, goal setting, and project management. These experiences are diverse in subject matter and responsibilities. They include hard-to-find niches, where subject-matter mastery is required and broad-based project management skills are necessary. Johnson School students also benefit from collaboration at Cornell's prestigious business school. All students receive a comprehensive business curriculum during the first semester of instruction that prepares them to address business situations and challenges from multiple perspectives.

Consulting Services
Consultants are typically utilized by firms to provide an objective opinion from a neutral party or as a way for a firm to "rent" expertise that would otherwise be too time consuming or expensive to acquire. Irrespective of immediate duties and activities, consultants remain focused on improving the client's business. Consulting services have grown tremendously in the recent past, as the business world has come to realize the value consultants can generate.

Through consulting projects, business school students can help Tompkins County non-profit organizations solve real business issues. These projects could range from broad strategic plans to a one-time financial analysis, to marketing studies, research and financing applications. MBA students can provide assistance in finance, accounting, strategy, marketing, e-commerce, and systems integration. If special "niche" experience is required to examine an issue, please indicate so in a detailed description of the project to identify students with the most applicable experiences and capabilities. Thank you for your consideration of this program and please feel free to tell other non-profits who may be interested.
