Each fall, the Johnson School Marketing Association at Cornell University
hosts a symposium that explores marketing challenges and leading edge trends
facing global organizations. This event, sponsored by corporate partners,
brings together students, academics, and executives from diverse industries
to
explore contemporary issues concerning the state of product management and
marketing from both a U.S. and global perspective. This year, the Marketing
Association is partnering with Net Impact to take on one of the most critical
issues facing the function today: How is the marketing discipline evolving
in a
changing social and environmental context, and how can tomorrow’s
Marketers be on the leading edge of positive change? This year’s symposium
will take place on November 8 and November 9 in Sage Hall at Cornell University.
An Open Dialogue
This joint Marketing Association and Net Impact Symposium will present
a forum for discussion on these pressing issues. The symposium includes
a keynote address as well as individual and panel discussions by senior
executives from top companies. This forum provides opportunities for students
to network with leaders of these world-class organizations. The event also
features a reception, catered breakfast, lunch, and slots for recruiting
events.
A new component of this year's symposium will be a case workshop involving
faculty and professionals. The Johnson School reaches out to its corporate
partners to help sponsor the event and to participate in the symposium.
Goal
The theme of the Marketing Symposium is different each year, reflecting
the rapid pace of change in the marketplace. This year's topic is “Marketing
for a Sustainable Future”. The goal is to bring together representatives
from a diverse group of companies to discuss how changing social and environmental
issues have influenced their marketing strategy and propelled their business.
The symposium also provides an opportunity
for these business leaders to meet other leaders in their fields, interact
with Cornell faculty, and meet students at the beginning of the on-campus
recruiting process.
An Involved Faculty and Staff
Although the Marketing Symposium is entirely student-run, the Johnson School
faculty and staff play an important advisory role in the planning process
and in the day's activities. Faculty members, who are engaged in teaching
and research in the marketing field, frequently introduce speakers and serve
as
panel moderators, skillfully blending theory and practice. They also encourage
their class members to attend symposium panel sessions that are relevant
to their coursework.
Ways to Get Involved
The success of the Marketing Symposium is largely dependent upon the support of the Johnson School’s Corporate Partners who provide speakers and financial support for the event. Participating corporate partners gain a high level of visibility with the student body. There are three different sponsorship levels for the symposium – Platinum ($3,500), Gold ($2,500), and Silver ($1,500). All levels allow for great visibility among the Johnson School community and Cornell at large. Please speak with Liz Edwards and Jeff Fuchs for more details about getting involved.
